On September 26th, in partnership with APPACDM Setúbal, we hosted a workshop on “Political Participation among Young People with Intellectual and Psychosocial Disabilities.” under the SPARK project.
The session used cartoon-style images to “spark” conversation in an open and relaxed way. Participants quickly saw that there were no wrong answers—only different perspectives to share and learn from.

Together, we explored small scenarios built around two guiding questions:
- What problem can we identify in the image?
- What can we do to solve it?
One example showed Luís, who wanted to vote online but couldn’t navigate the platform, and the subtitles were too small to read. This led to discussions about accessibility and how to make digital participation simpler and more inclusive.
The workshop highlighted both the barriers young people with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities face and the creative solutions they can propose. More than a learning session, it was a space for active listening, valuing diverse perspectives, and reinforcing the idea that political participation should be accessible to everyone.
