Out of the Box Europe is happy to announce the approval of the Erasmus+ KA2 project Social Radio 2.0: The European School Radio and Podcasting Community for Active Citizenship Education
Social Radio 2.0 project aims at leveraging on school radio and podcasting as an innovative educational tool for integrating citizenship education in school curricula in an effective and engaging way. On the one hand school radio provides an exciting and engaging medium for students to develop their communication skills, build confidence and discuss the issues that are important to them; on the other hand there is a rise in podcast popularity, especially among the young population whereby in some countries, podcasts have already been introduced in the classroom offering an engaging way for teachers to merge project-based learning with digital media skills development.
Therefore, the Social Radio 2.0 project seeks to develop the first ever European-wide community of teachers and schools who use school radio and podcasting to foster student’s civic engagement, build media literacy and cultivate students’ transversal skills such as critical thinking, communication and creativity. In this way, the project introduces a novel educational approach to citizenship education that combines online media with youth-led social activism initiatives with the aim to equip students with citizenship related competences and prepare them to become active, critical and responsible citizens.
The project will be implemented with close cooperation and support from Agrupamento de Escolas Pinheiro e Rosa, Faro.
