On Friday, 20th February, in the morning, we held a national policy debate with 21 young people with complex cognitive and psychosocial disabilities, in partnership with APPACDM Setúbal.
The debate aimed to give participants the opportunity to discuss policies that affect their lives and share their opinions and experiences. The session was held in person and adapted to each participant’s needs. It began with a simple “preferences” game, followed by a guided discussion, which allowed everyone to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment.
Despite high support needs, the message from participants was clear: they want to choose, to be heard, and to have more autonomy in their daily lives.
We would like to thank APPACDM Setúbal, the staff, and all 21 participants for their trust and collaboration. This debate showed that inclusion is more than consultation; it begins by listening and creating spaces where everyone’s voice can be heard.
