On the 21st of February, a session within the YOU-SMILE project occurred. This session happened on the most sustainable tourism destination of 2020 – São Miguel, Azores. This initiative unfolded across three living labs on the esteemed Portuguese island of São Miguel, situated within the Açores archipelago.
Co-financed by Erasmus+, the culminating moment of the YOU-SMILE project occurred at a Vocational Education and Training (VET) School in Rabo de Peixe, the municipality of Ribeira Grande. The session focused on three subjects: Sustainable Tourism Services in Rural Areas, Entrepreneurship, and Finance. Given the unfamiliarity of the participants with these domains, the pedagogical approach commenced with basic concepts.
The framework employed a Canva presentation, supplemented by a Mentimeter pre-assessment, serving as a diagnostic tool to check students’ knowledge. Subsequently, an interactive post-assessment game engaged 9 pairs of students in applying insights from the Canva presentation. The session entailed a challenging directive for participants to conceptualize and present their distinctive sustainable entrepreneurship ideas that could be made possible within the local context.
The students exhibited a vast array of creative and sustainable entrepreneurship ideas linked to the unique products and culture of the region. This pedagogical methodology not only enriched the participants’ cognitive faculties but also set the stage for education about innovation and sustainability inside the entrepreneurship sector.
